Building Your Best Nest this Fall
We all tend to partake in the annual practice of nesting as the fall season approaches. It’s a time of slowing down a bit, moving indoors and adding new hobbies and activities to our regular routine.
This fall, there are many ways to not only nest comfortably and start some new hobbies, but to do so while also spending quality time with family and friends. The trend and relationship experts at American Greetings offer the following suggestions for you to enjoy some new things with the most important people in your life.
Start a book club: One of the most beloved summer activities is reading on the beach or near the pool, but the hobby is even more attractive as cool raindrops hit your window. This fall, make the practice even more enjoyable, and communal, by getting together with friends to start a book club. Coming together to discuss the books will make the experience much more pleasurable, and with everyone sharing their own tastes, you can find many new titles to tackle.
Learn something new: With kids heading back to the classroom, the fall is a season of learning, so why not embrace the trend? Whether it’s focusing on a new skill that you can implement in your job, or something more leisurely like studying a favorite location for a possible future vacation, any new learnings will enrich you in countless ways, and it’s also a great way to meet new people.
Move your garden indoors: Gardening is a favorite summer hobby of many, and when the weather turns cold, that doesn’t mean your green thumb has to be buried under a glove. Talk to friends that have similar interests, and get together to find different herbs and other items that can grow indoors. By sharing ideas with friends you can get some of their best practices, and encourage each other to find new things to try out.
Try new things in the kitchen: The grill has done its job very well for the past three months, but now it’s time to put the cover on our favorite summer appliance. That doesn’t mean your creativity has to be put away with it, however. In addition to all of the great comfort foods that are almost as much fun to make as to eat, there are some great kitchen hobbies you can try. See if any friends or family have unique recipes to try, or even take up canning your own goods or making preserves.
Enjoy the post-blockbuster season at the movies: The summer months are synonymous with Hollywood’s biggest movies, but the fall months mean more complex and award-caliber films. Visit the theater with family or friends who share your cinematic tastes, or, in true nesting fashion, catch up on flicks you may have missed on DVD from the comfort of your own couch.
Whatever your interest, the fall offers great ways to enjoy yourself with the people you like to be with most.
